Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell Reportedly Seeking Sentence Commutation, Whistleblower Claims to Congressional Democrats

According to recent claims from a informant, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a 20-year prison term for sex-trafficking crimes, is reportedly preparing a commutation application for review by the Trump administration.

Preferential Handling Claimed at Federal Prison

House Democrats on the House judiciary committee announced that a whistleblower provided information indicating the inmate is preparing the commutation application. Additionally, they mentioned she has been receiving special treatment at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee, stated in a official statement that the facility's chief was “helping” Maxwell with copying, printing, and sending documents to support her bid for clemency.

Specific details of the clemency request remain unknown, the congressman noted.

Alleged Privileges and Special Accommodations

Raskin states that, according to the whistleblower, Maxwell has been receiving “customized” meals that are “personally delivered” to her cell, and the warden has “personally arranged” exclusive visits for her and her visitors.

These meetings allegedly include a designated private space for attendees and a variety of food and drinks for her associates.

Maxwell’s visitors were also allowed to carry electronic devices, which the congressman characterized as an exceptional measure given the security risk and potential for unmonitored communications.

In one alleged instance, when phone lines went down for other inmates, she was given specific instructions about who she should tell her contacts to contact and how staff would relay the call to her.

Warden as “Personal Secretary”

The whistleblower further reportedly told congressional members that when the convict wanted to examine and modify papers “quickly”, she “essentially used” the official as her private aide.

The news release indicates that Maxwell’s correspondents would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would hand them over to Maxwell, who would review and edit them and return them to the official to scan and provide to the original sender.

Extra Benefits Alleged

Further perks allegedly granted to her include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a perk typically prohibited – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the prison exercise area.

Her legal counsel did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the whistleblower’s claims.

In a statement, the presidential office said that it “will not discuss” on potential clemency requests.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has considered,” the spokesperson added.

Recent Background

Recently, reports surfaced that Maxwell told close associates in electronic messages that she was “much happier” at the new prison than her previous prison.

This past summer, Maxwell was transferred from a low-security prison in Florida's capital to the minimum-security camp in the state, where most detainees are incarcerated for financial and non-violent crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just days after she was questioned about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, the official, who also previously served as the President's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the administration was facing increasing scrutiny to disclose additional files related to the Epstein investigation and amid intense speculation around Trump's own personal ties to the disgraced financier and adjudicated criminal, who was found dead in a New York jail in that year while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Lawmaker Reactions

Through the statement, the congressman also announced that he had dispatched a communication to Trump, demanding answers about the insider's claims, and called on the chief executive to deny the clemency appeal.

“You should not grant any type of pardon to this adjudicated and remorseless sex offender,” Raskin wrote in the document. “The government must not offer her with personal amenities, with canine interaction, with government agents attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche attend a public congressional hearing to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had discussed a potential commutation for Maxwell with the official or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to provide Maxwell with the transfer or special conditions in prison, and whether she, her attorneys, family or representatives have made any commitments to the President or his attorneys.

The representative requested for a response to the inquiries by 24 November.

Last month, the US supreme court rejected an appeal from Maxwell on her sex-trafficking conviction.
