Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
